3. FAQs about your privacy when using our online services
Q: What information do you collect automatically about website visitors, and how do you use it?
Our website, like almost all other websites, stores basic information about its visitors in log files.
The information includes:
- the date and time of visits
- which pages were visited
- the addresses of websites which link to us
- what kind of web browsers our visitors use
- our visitors' IP addresses (the unique numbers computers are assigned for using the Internet)
We use this information to work out which are the most popular parts of our website and to help us improve our navigation, content and services.
Log files don't contain any personal information and aren't used to track the way in which individuals use our website.
Q: Do you ask for any personal information, and how do you use it?
We will ask you for personal or business information when you fill out online quote forms, feedback, call-back, subscription requests (such as newsletters and email alerts) or other forms on our site. The information we collect will only be used to provide you with the services detailed.
When you fill out an online form, we may take the opportunity to ask you whether we can use that information to contact you about updates to our web site or to send you marketing information from us or our business partners. We may also ask whether we can share the information confidentially with our marketing agency so that we can improve our marketing.
Q: What about information collected when I use the Brighter Business e-commerce site?
Information collected on our e-commerce site is encrypted using SSL technology and we use a payment service provider that is PCI DSS compliant.
You can save quotes in the secure environment to return to later, but these can only be accessed from a link in an email sent to you after you save the information.
As a security measure if your session is timed out for any reason you, or anyone subsequently using the same computer, will not be able to access the previously input data. This can be inconvenient but it is for your security.
Q: What happens when I leave brighterbusiness.co.uk to visit another web site?
If you follow a link from our website to another website, the owners of that website will be able to see that you came from the Brighter Business site but no other information - for example, the contents of your Brighter Business cookie - will be passed to that website.
Q: Does Brighter Business use cookies?
We use cookies to improve your experience of our website:
- To remember any personal settings you may have chosen for our site
- To remember information that you have typed into a form - this is to save you time if you need to fill the form in again. This information is only stored on your own machine and isn't sent to us until you submit the form
We never use cookies to track your Internet usage.
Our website will still work if you refuse its cookie (see 'Can cookies be removed from my computer' below). We only use cookies to make the website more convenient to use.
Q: What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file sent from a website when you visit it. Cookies are stored on your computer's hard drive. When you revisit the website, it uses the information in the cookie to, for example, fill in a form or set a personal preference such as a language option.
